Buttercup's Family

Our story with Lagotto Romagnolos began when our family of six started dreaming about raising puppies together. We hoped the experience would allow our children to witness the miracle of life, learn the value of hard work, and share in the joy of caring for puppies during their first weeks. After months of research, we fell in love with the Lagotto Romagnolo breed and welcomed Isabella into our family in October 2020.

Buttercup—whom we usually call Butter—was born right here in our home as part of Isabella’s third litter. We fell in love with her and couldn’t let her go, so she became a permanent part of our family. We have had the privilege of knowing Butter from her very first breath, watching her grow from one of Isabella’s puppies into the wonderful dog and expectant mother she is today.

Butter and Isabella are truly members of our family. They don’t live in kennels separate from us; they share our home and our everyday lives. Their food dishes are near our kitchen table, their beds are close to our couch, and they are regularly included in whatever our family is doing. Whether they are riding in the car, spending time with Greg at work, exploring our property, or relaxing with us at home, they are happiest when they are with their people.

Raising Butter’s puppies feels especially meaningful to us because they represent the next generation of a family line we have known and loved from the beginning. Just as Butter was born and raised in the center of our family, her puppies will spend their first weeks surrounded by the sights, sounds, activity, care, and affection of a real home. Our hope is to give each puppy a wonderful beginning and thoughtfully connect them with families who will love them as much as we love Butter and Isabella.
